TAKING A STAND
June 22, 2007 7:33 AMA Santa Barbara girl who cares about helping youngsters with cancer sold fresh-squeezed lemonade for several hours Thursday outside a local grocery store.
Avery Sorenson, 9, was among thousands of 7- to 12-year-olds across the nation who took part in Sunset Growers' annual Take a Stand program to raise money for charities. Avery was raising money for the Teddy Bear Cancer Foundation, which provides financial aid and other services to low- and middle-income families "to ensure that children with cancer receive the undivided comfort of their parents during the treatment and recovery process."
Avery's stand was at Albertsons, 2010 Cliff Drive.
Since its inception four years ago, Sunkist Growers has donated 28,000 free lemonade stands, helping raise about $1.5 million for hundreds of charities nationwide.
