About the Gold Ribbon Campaign

Our 3rd Annual Gold Ribbon Campaign is held in recognition of National Childhood Cancer Awareness Month during September. The Campaign will increase awareness about pediatric cancer and how it affects families; raise $250,000 for TBCF’s critical emotional and financial support programs; and provide networks for youth with cancer and their families.

Why is raising awareness about pediatric cancer important? 

In the United States, 13,000 children under the age of 21 are diagnosed with cancer each year = 36 kids each day.


In the United States, one in 300 children will be diagnosed with cancer by the time they are 20 years old.


Each year, more than 160,000 children are diagnosed with cancer worldwide.


When a child is diagnosed with cancer, their parents have to take time off work, or quite their job, to be in the hospital with their child. Leaving them with a significant decrease in their monthly income.


Why the Gold Ribbon?

In 1997, a group of parents in the United States created a universal symbol to raise awareness about pediatric cancer and mobilize support for our cause. Gold was selected as it represents a precious metal and children are precious.
