Program & Volunteer Associate – Part-time

Teddy Bear Cancer Foundation (TBCF) is searching for a dynamic part-time Program & Volunteer Associate to join our staff team 15 hours per week. The ideal candidate will be a highly motivated individual seeking to assist us in furthering our mission of providing financial, emotional, and educational support to families of children with cancer living in Santa Barbara, Ventura and San Luis Obispo Counties.
DESCRIPTION OF JOB
The Program & Volunteer Associate will work under the supervision of the Program Director and alongside our program team to provide strong program, event, and volunteer related support as well as detailed administrative tracking and reporting. This position requires ongoing, positive communication with multiple community members and interested volunteers of various ages and skillsets, assisting with volunteer intakes, placement and scheduling, as well as managing efficient volunteer tracking.
The Program & Volunteer Associate will be responsible for other program administrative tasks such as managing our program event calendar, procuring and tracking of in-kind donations in our donor data-base system (DonorPerfect) and producing weekly donation thank you letters. This candidate will also be responsible for producing volunteer and event related thank you cards, as well as maintaining current program and volunteer contact lists.
Additionally, the ideal candidate possesses excellent interpersonal skills, has strong communication abilities, and will be committed to the organization’s mission and philosophy. The position requires a person who is flexible as there are often many “extra” tasks that need to be completed, has great follow through, shows initiative and demonstrates attention to detail. This position will also require some evening and weekend work.
MISSION
Teddy Bear Cancer Foundation is a non-profit organization providing financial, emotional and educational support to families of children with cancer living in Santa Barbara, Ventura, and San Luis Obispo counties. We achieve this by providing financial aid for rent, mortgage, utilities, car payments, as well as emotional and educational support services, thereby allowing our children the opportunity to have the undivided attention of their parents.
PROFESSIONAL REQUIREMENTS

Bilingual in English and Spanish required.

At least two years' experience in related field preferred.

Two years of college course work required.

Experience working with volunteers, non-profit culture, and community organizing strongly preferred.

Ability to interact effectively with families and volunteers in emotional situations.

Ability to work independently and as part of a team.

Ability to manage highly emotional situations.

Excellent organizational skills and the ability to handle multiple demands.

Experience working with people of diverse backgrounds.

Ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

Requires the ability to access all areas of the facility.

Regularly required to stand, walk, sit, and use office equipment. Includes requirement to lift at least 30 pounds in course of normal duties.

Evening and weekend hours will be required.

Ability to hear and speak to exchange information in person or on the telephone.

Able to see and read a variety of materials.

Dexterity of hands and fingers to operate a computer keyboard and calculator.

Bend, kneel or crouch to store or retrieve materials.

Sit or stand for extended periods of time.
